Excellent Graphics Articles

Wednesday 18 February, 2004, 11:35 PM

I was just reading Raymond Chen's excellent blog. In his blog on the exclusive endpoints of RECTs he linked to an great article called A Pixel Is Not a Little Square.

It's a brilliant article dispelling the most widely-held misconception about what pixels really are.

Generally speaking I don't really like to write a blog just to link to some article someone else's blog just linked to. But having just looked around the site that contains this article I had to share it. I'd never seen the site before, and I was missing out! That article is one of a series of memos containing many gems on the fundamentals of graphics. I realised that it wasn't surprising that these are so good once I located the biography of the author, Alvy Ray Smith. He was a cofounder of Pixar... Before that he was Director of Computer Graphics Research at Lucasfilm's Computer Division. Before that he was the Senior Scientist at the New York Institute of Technology. (And it goes on..)

I find computer graphics absolutely fascinating. If you do too, I expect you'll like these articles as much as I did.
